Robby Fabbri made a name for himself on his NHL debut as he scored the game-winning goal against the Oilers, stealing the spotlight from first overall draft pick Connor McDavid.

The Blues had a great start to the game until a fluke own goal. Alex Pietrangelo tried to clear the puck after a defensive zone face-off win. It banked off forward Alexander Steen's knee, bouncing backward past Brian Elliot. However, silence was broken when Pietrangelo made a beautiful breakaway pass to Vladimir Tarasenko, who had no problem slipping it through the legs of Oilers' goaltender, Cam Talbot.

In the third period, Robby Fabbri put his name on the scoresheet by finishing a blind behind-the-back pass from Jori Lehtera. He hopped into the boards and showed off a grin he must have learned from watching Tarasenko.

"I guess I've got some bragging rights. We'll see how long that lasts," said Fabbri.

Following skirmishes and checks, Brouwer joined the fun as he backhanded an empty net goal. Elliot finished the game with 23 saves, a shutout if not for the crazy own goal.

McDavid played well, but many were not impressed. High expectations were present after being compared to Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins. He had a couple scoring chances and almost beat Elliot with a wraparound. McDavid and Fabbri are friends, having played for Canada at the World Junior Championship. Both seemed to be the fastest players on the ice.

Blues take on the Minnesota Wild this Saturday, October 10, at 7:00 p.m. The Blues will have there first away-game of the season, and you can watch it on FS-Midwest.
