Hello fellow Blues fans. What a ride this season has been. First let me introduce myself. My name is Jared and I am a Blues fan just like you...
I am just like you in almost every way. I am your average American who goes to work, comes home and spends time with his family, then watches sports. I play softball and consider myself above average at it. I play golf below average and I offer very mild to severe hot takes on Twitter.
I just turned 30 years old this past month. I have watched the Blues glory days of the 90s-00s to the terrible Laurie years. I have also become 100% invested in this team ever since I started boycotting the NFL when Stan Kroenke trashed our city on his way out the door moving his team to LA (a story for another day). I am a die-hard Mizzou football fan who holds season tickets to the college football team that invents ways to lose.
My dislikes include basically anything that people find cool. For example, Game of Thrones- I don't get the hype. I mean its OK, but it just takes forever for anything to develop. However, that is another topic for another day... (and a different website, says PJ while editing this).
My point to this is that I am you and you are I. I pay my taxes, love my family, and my sports teams. For this reason I have severe Loser Denial over this Blues team.
For those wondering, Loser Denial is a quote from Billy Madison. Billy used to be the coolest kid in school, then, long story short, goes back to high school and gets picked on.
In a conversation with the 'nerds' from one of his classes:
"... No, they ain't pickin' on me. They're givin' me a hard time cus I'm the new guy."
"A little first-day hazing."
"Are you in loser denial or something? I had a bad case of loser denial myself..."
Watching these Blues over the past three months, I've convinced myself it's the best chance a Blues team has to contend for the Stanley Cup. There are no Blackhawks, Red-Wings, or horribly intimidating team from the Pacific standing in the Blues way. Am I going to bore you with advanced metrics that show the team has far more scoring chances than other teams? No, that isn't my style.
All I know is that the Blues have one of the best lines in hockey... Good size, speed, depth, incredible defensive play, and a hot goaltender.
I am ignoring over 50 years of losing and misery. I am ignoring the never-ending heart break that awaits this franchise and city every spring/summer. I am in Loser Denial. I have been in this denial since January.
Are you in denial with me? Or are we onto something here. Hopefully our "denial" lasts a few more months.
Until the next time,
